Not as Cool as Soulja Boy: Format

Okay, not as cool (read Pete's post below), but how about the time and format for Friday?

Personally, I'm open to suggestion. What all are we required to do? Is it enough to simply have a roundtable discussion for half an hour, an hour? Should we have some topics set ahead of time, or should we all simply comment upon how we might approach teaching usability online? And is it "teaching" usability online, or simply a discussion of online usability?

It's teaching usability online. So if we wanted to move a usability course to an online format, could we do that? What would be involved? Would it be appropriate for Ph.D. classes? MA classes? Undergrad? What would have to change to move it to an online format? How would students complete assignments? I can think of many more questions, but that's the gist.

As for format, it would be nice to be able to post a video later, so we need to work out the details today. Also, Dr. Still would like to be involved. What do you think the best way of involving him would be?

Cool questions. OK, we can be thinking about how to answer those questions.

If there's a DE room with video equipment, we could set up a vid-chat with Brian. Failing that, we could MOO, or chat via Yahoo IM. Any of those options would be fine with me. If it's video-chat, then a half hour would be enough (imho), but in the MOO 45 minutes or a hour might be better.

I think Pete's idea of a video chat is good. A roundtable discussion might be worthwhile if we (1) kept it fairly short (1/2 hour?) and used it as a preliminary discussion for the video chat. I suggest this only because my only exposure to usability testing was the May seminar over a year ago, I've never taught usability testing, and, honestly, I don't have many ideas about how to teach it online. I wouldn't mind an informal discussion among ourselves.

Okay, the hospital has free wireless! I'm wired.

I'd need to set up a video room here at the Lubbock campus if we want to do that. I can call the TLTC or ATLC today if you're interested. Or did you have something with a Webcam in mind instead?
